Los Angeles Is Still Tolerating Street Takeover Nonsense

For years, dangerous street takeovers have been happening in Los Angeles, California and two especially bad incidents were recently recorded. One video shows a pedestrian getting hit by an SUV drifting during one of these “sideshows” and another shows the crowd torching a Jeep.

Watch a cop in Southern California flee from a street takeover.

The first incident happened not in the middle of the night but sometime around sundown in LA. A group blocked off an intersection for drivers to do their little stunts as pedestrians record the mayhem on their phones.

In the clip, a Chevy Tahoe is attempting to drift when it whips around, rear first into a crowd. Several people were knocked over by the out-of-control SUV, but one guy was hit particularly hard, flying into a parked car. As people gather around him, he’s unresponsive.

We don’t know what happened to the guy because there are zero news stories we could find about the incident. Sadly, with so many takeovers and people getting hurt at them, this sort of thing is just normal in California.

Same goes for the Jeep torching. A Wrangler Unlimited JK (that’s the current generation) is parked in the middle of a blocked-off intersection. Someone opens the hood and stars pouring gasoline all over the engine and other components.

Yes, these kids are idiots. The gas hits something hot, probably the exhaust manifold, and it ignites in a mini explosion. We don’t think anyone was seriously hurt, but it would serve them right if they were.

Likely the Jeep was stolen and this was the destruction of evidence, all for the purpose of entertaining the street takeover crowd. Car fires like this at these illegal gatherings have become commonplace.

Just what are authorities doing after years of mayhem? Well, Los Angeles County is talking about getting tough on street takeover participants and spectators. Keep in mind, they can only go so far thanks to the soft state laws, but maybe the talking will eventually result in some sort of action.

But will this chaos curtail? We’re a little cynical at this point after pointing out this problem for years and seeing nothing really happen.
