A Connecticut man who was cited for speeding big time told troopers he was late for a job interview. Trying to still get to the potential place of employment on time, the guy pushed his Mercedes E300 to 132 mph, until the state police got involved.

The 19-year-old man was traveling on south Interstate 91 in Cromwell when a trooper noticed he was going a wee bit faster than everyone else. Pulling out his trusty laser gun, the cop confirmed that suspicion and took off the pull the speeding German sedan over.

But the teenager, who was foolish enough to treat the interstate like the Autobahn, was also dumb enough to try ditching the trooper. According to WCAX, the kid accelerated, wove through traffic, and in general tried ditching the cop.

The little maneuver worked, sort of. Because this happened in Connecticut and not Florida, the trooper called of the pursuit. Fortunately, the Mercedes wasn’t stolen, so when state police ran the tag, they were able to contact the owner, who in turn identified the family member who was driving the car.

After troopers got in contact with the teen, he actually turned himself in and was arrested. That’s when he explained he was speeding because he was late for the job interview.

We’ve known a lot of cops in our time and have asked them about the craziest excuses they’ve heard after pulling someone over. Most express a mixture of frustration and amusement while detailing out the improbably stories people tell them.

Then there’s this guy. Instead of concocting some tale about his grandmother only having moments to live in the hospital or his accelerator getting stuck, he seemingly just told the unvarnished truth.

Maybe he thought that would be refreshing for troopers to hear, instead of the made up stuff. It didn’t work and now he’s facing a string of charges, thanks almost exclusively to his not just pulling over.
