One of our greatest fears is that we’re sitting at home when a semi-truck or dump truck plows into our house. For a woman in Colquitt County, Georgia that nightmare became a reality when a Walmart semi crashed into her home while she was inside.
Heart pounding video: dump truck plows into a house.
Up front, we’ll tell you the woman, who isn’t being identified, wasn’t killed. However, she did receive injuries which weren’t specified, although a report from WALB says none were life-threatening in nature. So that’s good.
Georgia State Police has been investigating the crash. The state law enforcement agency says the truck driver isn’t the one at fault in the crash.
The semi was traveling along a road when a minivan pulled out from a side road right in front of it. We’ve seen that sort of thing happen far too often. Many drivers have no idea how long semis take to slow down or stop, thinking they’re just like a car.
It would’ve served the minivan driver right had the truck just plowed into the vehicle, although if any children were onboard that could’ve been tragic. Instead, the truck driver lost control, probably from swerving to avoid a collision, and ended up going off the road.
The driver couldn’t stop the Walmart semi before it hit a house that’s situated near the road. As you can see from the image, the truck did a lot of damage, leaving a gaping hole in an exterior wall and wrecking part of the interior.
We imagine the house won’t be inhabitable for a while, if it’s not torn down because the damage is too extensive. Because the minivan driver has been charged with failure to yield, we wonder if that person will be held liable for the house and truck.
