Cleveland Police Arrest Two Teens After Recovering Stolen Vehicle

Two teenage girls were arrested after Cleveland police recovered a stolen vehicle during a citywide operation targeting car thefts and break-ins.

How the Vehicle Was Located

According to a police news release, officers in the Second District identified a vehicle reported stolen out of East Cleveland traveling through the Ohio City and Gordon Square neighborhoods. The vehicle was detected using FLOCK safety cameras shortly before 9 p.m., prompting officers to attempt a traffic stop near West 73rd Street and Detroit Avenue.

A Brief Pursuit

Rather than stopping, the driver accelerated and led officers into a nearby parking lot before reaching a dead end. All five occupants of the vehicle fled on foot in different directions. Officers apprehended two of them, a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old, following a brief chase.

A Missing Child Located

Investigators confirmed that the 13-year-old had previously been reported missing from Maple Heights. Both teens were processed at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Home and charged with receiving stolen property. They were later released to their caregivers under home detention monitoring and are expected to appear in juvenile court at a later date.

Vehicle Recovered

The stolen vehicle was recovered at the scene and will be returned to its owner. Police have not released additional details about the remaining suspects who fled on foot, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Part of a Broader Enforcement Effort

The arrests were part of a larger enforcement initiative aimed at addressing a recent increase in stolen vehicles on Cleveland’s west side. The department continues to rely on FLOCK license plate recognition technology and community tips to locate stolen vehicles and identify individuals connected to organized theft activity.
