Three people were taken to the hospital after a 1958 Willys pickup collided with a lineup of classic vehicles at Mecum’s Dallas-Fort Worth auction, damaging several high-value cars including a 1966 Corvette, a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, and a 2019 Corvette ZR1.

How the Crash Happened

Witnesses say the incident occurred when the driver of the Willys, a restomod built with a Chrysler Hemi engine, appeared to lose control of the vehicle at the auction venue. Photos from the scene show the Willys’ front end lodged against the side of the Corvette, with visible damage across all of the vehicles involved.

Damage to Already-Sold Vehicles

According to reports, several of the damaged vehicles had already been sold at auction prior to the crash. The 1966 Corvette, finished in Mosport Green with its original 327 small-block engine, was struck and pushed into the nearby Trans Am, which then made contact with the ZR1. The Willys itself had not yet found a buyer at the time of the incident.

Injuries and Aftermath

Three individuals were transported to the hospital following the crash, though the extent of their injuries has not been publicly disclosed. The incident disrupted what had otherwise been a routine auction day, leaving attendees and staff to assess the damage to several high-value vehicles.

What Happens Next

It remains unclear how the crash will affect the sale status or valuation of the damaged vehicles, particularly those that had already changed ownership prior to the collision. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks present even in controlled auction environments where valuable vehicles are moved in close proximity to one another.
