Maury County Firefighters Rescue Driver After Mustang Teeters Over Embankment

Maury County, Tennessee firefighters rescued a driver Sunday night after a Mustang went off the road on Theta Pike and came to rest precariously balanced over a steep embankment.

How the Rescue Unfolded

According to fire officials, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle, sending it off the roadway. The car came to rest teetering on the edge of the embankment, held in place primarily by a small tree.

A Careful Extraction

Rescue crews worked methodically to free the driver without destabilizing the vehicle, cutting through the car’s doors to create an exit point while maintaining the car’s position. Once the driver was safely removed, crews used ropes and rigging equipment to carefully pull the vehicle back onto stable ground.

Outcome

The driver was transported for treatment and sustained only minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

A Reminder About Local Road Conditions

Officials noted that Theta Pike’s winding, poorly lit sections have contributed to past incidents and urged drivers to remain especially attentive when navigating the road after dark. Fire officials credited the crew’s rescue technique with preventing a far more serious outcome, given how little was holding the vehicle in place before help arrived.
