How the Theft Was Reported

According to police, the incident occurred just after 9 p.m. on November 4, when a gym member called 911 after discovering his key fob missing from his locker and his black Camaro gone from the parking lot.

How Investigators Identified a Suspect

Before officers arrived at the YMCA, a Hammond officer received an alert from a license plate reader indicating the stolen Camaro was traveling north toward East Chicago. Surveillance footage from the YMCA later showed a man in a gray hoodie and dark jeans entering the locker room before leaving with another individual and driving off in the Camaro.

Arrests Made

East Chicago police later located the Camaro parked at Tod Park, where several individuals fled on foot as officers approached. Three of the four were apprehended at the scene. Using the YMCA surveillance footage, Hammond investigators identified Marvell Gregory Ja Shaw Rocquemore as the alleged driver of the stolen vehicle.

What Happens Next

East Chicago police took the group into custody on other pending matters, while the case involving the stolen Camaro will proceed through Lake County’s court system. As with any pending case, the charges are accusations, and those involved are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
