Driver Arrested on DUI Charge After Allegedly Hitting 133 MPH Near Georgia Elementary School

A Clayton County, Georgia driver was arrested last month after authorities say a speed reading clocked the vehicle traveling 133 mph on Highway 138 near Swint Elementary School, an area with a posted 45 mph limit.

How the Stop Unfolded

According to police, the incident occurred on October 25 when a deputy recorded the extreme speed and located the vehicle a short distance away, pulling it over at a gas station near Crown Way. Officers reported signs consistent with alcohol impairment, including bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol. The driver reportedly admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier, including a beer and a shot of tequila.

Field Sobriety Results and Prior History

The driver was given field sobriety tests, which authorities say indicated impairment. Police also noted that the driver’s license had previously been suspended following an earlier DUI conviction. No injuries or property damage were reported in connection with the incident.

Case Status

Authorities have not released the driver’s name as the investigation continues. The case is proceeding through Georgia’s DUI court system, where additional legal consequences are expected given the driver’s prior record. As with any pending case, the driver is presumed innocent of the current charge unless proven guilty in court.
