A police pursuit in Graves County, Kentucky ended Monday night when a stolen Dodge Charger struck a utility pole and rolled, knocking out power to nearby homes and leaving the vehicle heavily damaged.
How the Pursuit Started
According to authorities, McCracken County police had alerted neighboring agencies that a stolen 2017 Dodge Charger was heading their way. A Graves County deputy spotted the vehicle traveling on US-45 and attempted a traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, the driver accelerated, initiating a brief pursuit that ended when the Charger struck a utility pole with enough force to flip the vehicle and collapse part of the roof.
What Deputies Found
Investigators say a handgun was recovered from the wreckage that was not registered to the vehicle’s rightful owner. The driver, identified by authorities as a juvenile, was taken into custody at the scene and has reportedly denied being the one driving at the time of the crash. Based on the evidence collected, the juvenile has been charged with felony evasion and illegal possession of a firearm, with additional charges still possibly pending as the investigation continues.
Investigation Ongoing
Utility crews worked to restore power to the affected neighborhood following the crash. Detectives are continuing to investigate how the vehicle was stolen and how the firearm ended up inside it, and have not ruled out the possibility that others were involved. As with any juvenile case, further details about the suspect are not being released publicly, and the allegations remain unproven in court.
