A Rest Stop Theft With Higher Stakes Than Usual
Police in Fairfield, Connecticut, are searching for a stolen Mercedes-Benz taken from an I-95 southbound rest stop Wednesday morning, with added urgency tied to the fact that a cat named Milo was still inside the vehicle when it disappeared.
What Was Taken
The vehicle, a 2021 Mercedes GLB 35 AMG carrying dealer plates reading “MEDI,” went missing around 9 a.m. from the busy rest stop. Investigators believe a Hyundai Elantra displaying fraudulent Ohio plates may have been involved as part of the theft, though police haven’t determined how many people were involved or how long they were at the location before leaving.
A Possible Repeat of a Prior Case
Investigators note the theft bears similarities to an incident at the same rest stop during Thanksgiving week last year. Detectives are now reviewing that earlier case to determine whether the two thefts might be connected.
The Owner’s Priority: Getting the Cat Back
Police haven’t released details about available surveillance footage or exactly how the theft occurred. The vehicle’s owner, a car dealer from Boston, has said the vehicle itself is secondary to his concern for Milo’s safe return.
Police Ask for Tips
Fairfield police are asking anyone who saw a suspicious Hyundai Elantra or unusual activity at the rest stop Wednesday to come forward with information, as the investigation into both the vehicle theft and Milo’s whereabouts continues.
