A late-night pursuit in Kitsap County ended in a violent crash and multiple arrests after deputies located a vehicle reported stolen earlier that evening. Authorities say the incident involved an estranged spouse, a high-speed chase, and a forced stop that sent the car into a freeway overpass.
A Wife Takes the Car Without Permission
The incident began shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 5, when the vehicle’s owner contacted emergency dispatchers to report that his estranged wife had taken the car without permission. He also told dispatchers the vehicle had been seen at the Suquamish casino, where the woman was reportedly with a friend.
Law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions responded, including Bainbridge Island Police, Suquamish Tribal Police, and deputies from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office. Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. According to authorities, the deputy activated emergency lights and sirens, but the driver refused to pull over and accelerated away instead, prompting a pursuit.

A PIT Maneuver Ends the Chase
The chase continued until deputies were able to intervene using a precision intervention technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver. The maneuver caused the vehicle to lose control and crash into a freeway overpass, bringing the pursuit to an abrupt end.
After the crash, officers say the two women inside the vehicle refused initial commands to exit. To gain compliance, deputies deployed a pepper ball launcher, after which both occupants surrendered and were taken into custody without further incident.
The Charges
The driver was identified as a 39-year-old woman from Poulsbo. She was booked into jail on suspicion of reckless endangerment, attempting to elude law enforcement, first-degree assault, and aiding and abetting the theft of a vehicle — allegations that have not yet been proven in court. The passenger, a 37-year-old woman, was also arrested and booked on an outstanding warrant issued by the Washington State Department of Corrections.
No additional details have been released about injuries resulting from the crash. The incident remains under investigation as authorities review the events that led to the pursuit and forced stop.
