Ford has quietly moved the front trunk on the 2026 Mustang Mach-E from standard equipment to a $495 option across all four trims. The frunk, a small but useful storage compartment under the hood, had been included at no extra cost on every prior model year.
Why Ford Made the Change
The shift was first reported by Ford Authority and later confirmed by MotorTrend. According to those reports, Ford revised the feature packaging after finding that a large share of owners simply weren’t using the frunk space regularly. Starting with 2026 models, anyone who wants the extra under-hood cargo insert has to add it during configuration rather than getting it by default.
The Real Math on Price
On paper, the base price actually looks lower: the 2026 rear-wheel-drive Select starts at $39,850, down from $39,990 for the 2025 model. But that headline number doesn’t tell the whole story once the frunk is factored back in. A 2026 RWD Select equipped with the $495 frunk insert totals $40,335, which ends up $345 more than a comparably equipped 2025 model that included the feature standard. In other words, the sticker price drop is smaller than it looks for anyone who actually wants the frunk.
The Rally Trim Loses Even More Standard Gear
The changes go further on the 2026 Mustang Mach-E Rally, which no longer includes its rear wing and decal package as standard equipment. The raised rear spoiler is now a $995 option on its own. The Rally’s starting price falls to $59,735 from $60,485 in 2025, but once buyers add back both the optional spoiler and the frunk, the total price increases by $1,490 compared to the base 2026 model. Making matters more restrictive, the Rally decal package isn’t available as an option at all anymore, meaning buyers who liked that look are simply out of luck.
Ford hasn’t announced any additional changes to the Mach-E lineup beyond these adjustments. The updated pricing and equipment structure applies as 2026 models begin reaching dealer lots and buyers.
