Always be aware of road conditions.
Whenever you get behind the wheel of a car, you need to aware of road conditions or the result can be tragic. A Chevy Camaro driver found that out the hard way in Pine Lawn, Missouri when a slippery road led to a fatal one-vehicle crash.
Learn how one city is making driving more ridiculous here.
As mentioned in a brief report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Camaro lost control while driving down a slippery stretch of road in the St. Louis suburb, going airborne before flipping multiple times. The violent wreck resulted in the ejection of a 24-year-old passenger who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Missouri State Patrol concluded in a preliminary report that the 24-year-old driver was going “too fast for conditions” and that’s what caused him to lose control of the muscle car. We’re guessing the slippery nature of the road was due to rain, which should cause you to slow down and not make any sudden moves in your car.
Immediately when we read that the passenger was ejected from the vehicle it was obvious she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. While we think people can do stupid things like not wear their seatbelt, in a violent wreck that can prove fatal. Investigators concluded the driver wasn’t wearing his either, so the guy lucked out as he somehow wasn’t thrown free of the Camaro.
During the crazy scene, one of the wheels broke off the Camaro and went flying, eventually hitting a nearby Ford Fusion’s windshield. It sounds like the safety glass miraculously didn’t give way because the driver wasn’t injured. We’ve seen runaway wheels absolutely pulverize vehicles, so this accident could’ve easily turned into a double fatality.
When you are driving in slippery conditions with a higher-powered car like a Camaro, you need to lower your speed and slow down any inputs. That means brake gradually, not suddenly and don’t jerk on the steering wheel. Unfortunately, too many people believe they can drive the same as they do on dry pavement, which leads to crashes like this one.
