Man Shoots Teen Driving Wife’s Stolen Car

This isn’t how to handle car theft.

We understand how frustrated many people feel about their car being stolen, a problem a growing number of Americans and people in other countries are suffering through. However, we don’t think shooting someone driving your stolen car is the solution, either. But that’s exactly what a 37-year-old Rochester, New York man has been accused of doing and he’s facing criminal charges as a result.

Learn why a car thief called police to turn himself in here.

As detailed out by Democrat & Chronicle, Byron Bell has been charged with two felonies, second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a stolen weapon, for gunning down Ja’hod Snow back on June 27.

The 18-year-old Snow was driving Bell’s wife’s vehicle which had been stolen only hours before. While his wife called and reported the theft to police, Bell decided to use the GPS tracker in the car to find it. Allegedly, when he caught up with it just before 5 am he opened fire.

One of the rounds hit Snow in the torso, causing him to crash into a pole. Other people who were riding in the vehicle jumped out and ran away. After being transported to a local hospital, the teen driver was pronounced dead.

It still hasn’t been revealed if Snow or any of the people who were in the car had stolen it or were otherwise involved in its theft. Sometimes, thieves will sell a freshly stolen vehicle for cheap. Sometimes they pass stolen rides to friends. While rare, thieves even sometimes leave vehicles abandoned with the keys inside.

We don’t know how Snow and the others obtained the stolen car and neither did Bell. This is why if you do decide to track down your stolen vehicle, you need to be careful about how you get it back. We recommend waiting until it’s parked and empty, then taking it back. Shooting up the car and the people you find inside it isn’t a wise course of action. We would’ve thought everyone understood that, but apparently they don’t.
