Washington Man Strangles Cop, Steals Cruiser, Leads Police On Chase

Estimated read time 2 min read

What started as a dealership burglary call ended with a suspect getting pitted out while driving a stolen police cruiser on at least one blown tire. It’s a crazy string of events that perfectly illustrates how car theft is fueling other crimes in communities.

Florida trooper teaches entitled woman a valuable lesson.

The whole crazy string of events went down a little after 4 am on September 27 in Bellevue, Washington. Police were alerted to a break-in at a car dealership, with King 5 reporting that when police arrived the suspect was attempting to steal a safe. We’d be willing to bet inside that safe was car keys.

But when police – and we’re not sure if it was one or several officers present – confronted the burglary suspect, there was a physical fight. During that the suspect strangled an officer, then stole a cruiser. It would be interesting to see bodycam footage to understand exactly what happened, but instead we only get some of the dashcam video.

Tukwila police jumped in to pursue the stolen cruiser, using spike strips to deflate at least one tire. In footage shared by Fox 13 Seattle, you can see sparks shoot out as that tire came off the wheel, the metal scraping on pavement.

With the police car slowing, a Tukwila officer did a PIT, spinning the stolen vehicle out. The suspect bailed but didn’t get far before officers had him subdued. He’s facing a number of charges.

We’ve been observing how dealerships and auto shops need to invest more in security that can withstand a burglary attempt in the middle of the night. It sounds like this dealership did, stopping the suspect from getting any keys out of the safe while the alarm alerted police to the break-in.

Had the dealership not invested in a good safe, the suspect probably would’ve driven off in a vehicle that was for sale, possibly slipping away in the early morning hours.
