Stolen Race Car Found Stripped In Washington

Estimated read time 2 min read

Car thieves haven’t just been targeting Hellcats and Kias sitting in driveways overnight, they’ve also been going after race cars. One of the latest examples comes out of Everett, Washington after a truck, the trailer hitched to it, and the race car contained inside were all stolen from a towing business on September 29.

Why are automakers putting video games in cars?

While the trailer and race car were recovered two days later by Snohomish County deputies on October 1, the car was stripped of virtually everything but the wheels. It’s the kind of sad end we see all the time lately.

Sadly, most people don’t think to take extra measures to secure or track their race car and trailer. We’ve mentioned to those in motorsports before the fact aftermarket alarm systems that won’t allow the trailer brakes to disengage are available but in general receive smirks or outright laughs at such a suggestion.

Yet we see cases, both in North America and elsewhere, of stolen race cars all the time. Usually they’re inside trailers, with thieves either hooking up and taking it in the night or stealing the truck that’s already hitched to the trailer.

In most of these cases, we see nothing about GPS trackers onboard the trailer or car. It’s like people pour all this money into their racer but can’t blow $30 on an Apple AirTag. Perhaps we’re paranoid, but we’d have at least two GPS trackers on the trailer itself.

“We’re frustrated,” Chris Caulder, manager for Mary’s Towing, told Fox 13 Seattle. “We can’t stop the thieves from doing what they’re doing. Now we’re without our race car.”

Towing companies have also been targeted by thieves plenty in the past few years. Anywhere that has cars thieves might be interested in and especially that sits empty overnight has attracted these sorts of crimes.
