Carjackings are up in many metro areas, but an attempted one in SeaTac, Washington was thwarted by a man wielding bear spray. We’ve seen people advocate bear spray over other non-lethal options, but this is the first time we’ve seen it used to stop a carjacking.
An effective deterrent can foil a carjacking, though confronting criminals always carries risk. The unusual defense is a reminder of the lengths people go to protect themselves amid rising fears of these violent crimes.
