A single car crash involving a Ford Taurus ended with a fire hydrant acting like a missile, almost beheading the iconic Bob’s Big Boy statue in the Los Angeles area. It’s a shocking incident which left the female driver trapped in the badly damaged vehicle as firefighters worked with the jaws of life to get her free.

Footage of the crash provided by Bob’s Big Boy shows the Ford sedan veer off the road, onto the sidewalk by the restaurant, hit the fire hydrant and immediately mow down the light pole. The impact sparked a fireball as the statue in front of the business was scalped by the hydrant as it show sideways like some sort of missile.

The crash originally happened at 2 am on July 28. Rescuers had to work for half an hour to get the driver out of the Taurus. She was taken to a local trauma center, but her condition wasn’t known.

Authorities haven’t announced the cause for the crash. Fortunately, the building wasn’t hit by the car, although it strafed within a few feet of the front. Had it impacted the restaurant, damages could’ve been catastrophic and the collision might have turned fatal.

This incident is a perfect reminder that everyone needs to stay attentive and cautious behind the wheel. We don’t know what caused this crash, but it might have been the product of distraction, intoxication, or drowsiness.

The Bob’s Big Boy statue has become famous in part thanks to it being featured in numerous movies. Among them are License to Drive, Austin Powers, Heat, and Reality Bites. Even people who have never been to the Los Angeles area or know anything about the restaurant recognize the statue, it’s so iconic at this point.
