Dealerships have become popular targets for car thieves, especially when it comes to high-end models like Dodge Hellcats. While many don’t seem to do much about this trend, one dealer in North Carolina is fighting back by offering a reward for information about who stole a now-recovered muscle car.
Car dealership owner does a citizen’s arrest on a car thief.
In under 10 hours after being put on a family-owned car lot in Wendell, thieves swiped a Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The theft happened at 2 am with a group parking across the street, walking over, and stealing the Mopar in just minutes.
The owner of the car dealership told CBS 17 he didn’t think the Hellcat could be stolen, although in the report he doesn’t specifically say why. Considering they’re swiped all the time, we’re really curious if that particular one had some aftermarket security modifications which led the guy to believe it was safe.
What we do know is the guy’s hopping mad now and wants the thieves caught, even though the Hellcat was recovered soon after the theft. He’s offering $5,000 to anyone who provides information about the theft which then leads to an arrest.
Why more car dealers don’t offer rewards like this is beyond us. Perhaps some people think this is rash of the guy in this case, but we believe if you just let people steal from you without consequences, it’s going to keep happening.
Plus, this dealer is thinking about the big picture, realizing the thieves are going to steal from other people. It’s honorable the guy feels a responsibility to the community at large, because the thieves sure don’t seem to share that sentiment.
We hope these thieves are caught and face justice and that someone collects that reward money.
