One would think if you’re going to a court hearing for car theft charges against you that stealing another vehicle to get to the courthouse would be a bad idea. But a man in Oklahoma apparently thought that was a great idea, making him another dumb criminal who got caught in the act.
Here’s another dumb criminal who showed up to court driving a stolen car.
Apparently, the guy couldn’t get a ride from anyone to go to the courthouse, so he thought he’d just help himself to someone’s pickup truck that was left idling at a gas station. Even worse, the truck belongs to LifeNet Emergency Services, which provides emergency medical services. Stealing from such an organization is just bad karma.
Before the theft, Kody Adams was at the gas station in Stillwater, Oklahoma asking people there to give him a ride to Pawnee but was having no luck, reports KOCO News.
Rather than continue trying to bum a ride, Adams reportedly saw the idling, empty pickup truck and decided to help himself instead.
Perhaps he thought he got away with the theft because the man made it all the way to the courthouse half an hour away in Pawnee. He ditched the truck but was met by a state trooper as he was walking through the courthouse doors.
Instead of arresting him right there, the trooper ensured Adams made his court hearing. After the man made his appearance, the trooper arrested him and Adams was taken back to Payne County where he had stolen the pickup.
We can only imagine what the judge will say when the reason for the theft of the truck comes to light in court. After all, who steals a vehicle to make a court hearing about stealing another ride? Obviously not someone who’s learned the lesson that theft is wrong.
