Dramatic police bodycam and dashcam footage shows what happens when a stolen Mercedes is cornered in a Walmart parking lot in the Portland, Oregon area. Officers on the scene learned in a hurry the suspect not only was willing to steal a car but also to use it as a deadly weapon against them.
See how a handcuffed suspect steals a cop car.
The suspect at first rams the police cruiser and an unmarked cop car that pull up and pin the Mercedes into its parking spot. Of course, that doesn’t work since it usually requires a significantly heavy and/or powerful vehicle to push past law enforcement like that.
Desperate to get away, the suspect throws the Mercedes sedan into reverse, almost running over at least one officer on foot. He and at least one more cop have their sidearms drawn, so the suspect was lucky he didn’t get a fatal case of lead poisoning right then.
The luxury car’s rear driver’s side tire hits a fire hydrant in the rock-filled island the suspect drives into, and you can hear the air start rushing out. Then the criminal genius speeds off, blowing through a stop sign and pushing the German car hard.
But police terminated the pursuit because the suspect was going too fast, says KGW. Remember, this is in Oregon, so if you run from police in that state just be sure to drive fast and/or recklessly enough and police have to let you get away.
However, in this case police were able to track down the suspect four days later. The guy runs again, this time on foot through the woods and there’s at least one K9 on the scene. Plus, officers brought the SWAT team in a Bearcat. We guess that’s better than pitting out the fleeing Mercedes with the rapidly deflating rear tire.
Police did finally find the guy hiding in someone’s camping trailer and engaged in negotiations for a while before the suspect surrendered. Now he’s facing 20 criminal charges. We can’t wait to see how many are dropped by the prosecutor
