Few police departments have a vehicle that can go toe-to-toe with a Dodge Scat Pack, be it a Charger or Challenger. While there are a few law enforcement agencies which have some of these or even Hellcats and Redeyes in their fleet, they’re quite the exception. That’s why this chase between Michigan State Police and a Dodge Charger Scat Pack through the streets of Detroit is anything but a fair fight.
Check out the cars stripped and abandoned around Detroit.
Sure enough, after a trooper spots the Mopar muscle car driving recklessly it easily pulls away. While traffic and stop lights help the trooper keep the suspect in view, once there’s a big straightaway with not many other cars the suspect blacks out, switching off all the lights in an attempt to disappear.
The only thing is in a city with street lights and other vehicles which do have their lights on, turning yours off just makes you stand out more, especially to police. Also, in a city if you’re trying to run from the cops, you might find there are more swarming the area, including getting out in front of where you’re headed.
Pretty soon this becomes a Charger vs Charger fight as another MSP unit takes the lead, closing the gap in a hurry. As this new lead gets close and makes contact on a right turn, you can see the suspect’s Charger has an R/T badge. Even though the video says it’s a Scat Pack, is it possible that’s not accurate?
We do know some people will remove the factory badges on their upper trim level cars, applying lower trim badges to make them sleepers or stealthier. While not a horribly common practice since most people like to brag about having a higher-powered muscle car, it’s possible that’s the case here. But it would explain why the MSP Charger is able to keep up no problem, at least until there’s another straightaway and the suspect blasts down the road.
Things get more exciting from there. Through a sweeping right turn, the suspect’s Mopar takes too much of an outside line and ends up on the sidewalk, launching into the air with sparks flying off the chassis. The impact just demolishes the muscle car and that’s the end of the car chase but the beginning of the foot chase.
This pursuit just proves even if you have a technically superior car, bad driving skills can and likely will sabotage your efforts to get away. Don’t run from the police, kids!
