Fatal Tesla Crash In Upstate New York Seems Somewhat Familiar

A fiery, fatal Tesla crash in Upstate New York makes us think of a somewhat familiar Cybertruck crash in the Bay Area of California. We hope there’s no connection and that this isn’t any kind of trend, but there are some similarities we assume federal investigators will look into.

A re-steal scam burns a used truck buyer.

In in the crash that happened in Pelham Manor, New York the Tesla traveled through an intersection before hitting a wall, then catching fire. Two people inside couldn’t be rescued from the blaze, both of them perishing.

Because EV batteries will burn so hot, we can’t say with confidence what kind of Tesla crashed. It looks like it was a Model 3 or Model Y, but the mangled, charred remains make identifying it difficult.

Few details have been released about the crash, which happened on November 3, but an ABC7 report mentions that officials believe speed was a factor in the accident. Speed was cited as a possible factor in the California Cybertruck crash as well.

It’s not indicated in either incident whether or not Autopilot or Full Self Driving was activated in either Tesla. But both vehicles struck a wall before igniting so suddenly the people inside perished. That’s a scary way to go, especially when you don’t have a chance to escape.

Obviously, with so little information known in either case, we couldn’t even begin to say if there’s a connection or not. But we hope it’s something the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration looks into. The federal agency investigates any automated driving crash in the US.

Whether or not the self-driving features were running at the time of these crashes, it’s still good everyone remembers that no driver assistance systems on consumer vehicles allow you as the driver to not pay attention to what’s going on. You have to be ready to take over any second, otherwise tragedy might result for you and your passengers.
