Sometimes we think cops don’t understand physics well at all, which is clear in this chase involving a stolen Ford F-450 pulling a skid steer on a trailer. After all, an Arkansas trooper tried pitting the truck and trailer with his supervisor’s encouragement. Then a huge pileup of cop cars followed, making for a huge mess.
A crash involving a Tesla in Full Self Driving sparks a huge lawsuit.
It’s not often you see a suspect running from police while towing a piece of heavy machinery, but we think this incident might result in a policy change for Arkansas State Police and others. If nothing else, it’s entertaining to watch go down.
Our suspect smartly gets onto dirt roads after a bit of chasing on regular streets. It gives him an advantage since the dusty cloud he picks up makes it harder for the trooper and other cops to catch up.
After all, they could’ve ran headlong into the back of the trailer if he suddenly stopped. That didn’t happen, but something else did later.
When the one trooper was able to cut through the dust and finally see the suspect, his supervisor told him to push the truck and trailer off the dirt road. That’s easier said than done, especially in a vehicle that weighs a fraction of the truck, not to mention the trailer and skid steer.
After getting bodychecked by the trailer during the PIT attempt, the trooper’s cruiser rolls onto its roof. Coming upon this, one deputy stops and this triggers a pileup as other local law enforcement in hot pursuit run into his and the other stopped patrol cars.
We can only imagine what the total repair costs were for the chain reaction crash. At least the stolen truck was recovered after the suspect abandoned it and ran away on foot. With the help of K9 units, he was tracked in the woods and captured.
