After a car crash, police have the thankless job of assigning blame and issuing citations. But, when one of the parties involved in the accident is a cop, things can get a little interesting. That’s what this video shows, a crash between a member of law enforcement and a citizen in a residential intersection. We want to know who you think should be held accountable for this crash.
Who’s at fault in this Cadillac CTS vs C8 Corvette crash?
The footage is a big grainy but it does show clearly there are stop signs in all four directions at an intersection. As a police officer moves through in his cruiser, a sedan comes along at a good clip, obviously runs the stop sign, and hits the rear quarter panel of the cop car, spinning it 180 degrees.
As a result, the front end of the sedan gets obliterated. We can’t see if there’s any significant damage to the cruiser because the side that was impacted points away from the camera and the actual hit was blocked from view by the bus stop.
What people are arguing about is who’s at fault in this crash. You might think that’s ridiculous because the female in the sedan clearly caused the accident. But some people are seeing it a little differently.
Because of how the footage is edited, we don’t see the cop driving up to the intersection. It appears like he just slow rolled through the stop sign, but it might be that he already stopped before the video begins – if only we had a second or two of what happened before.
Some argue because the police officer allegedly didn’t stop at the stop sign, he is in fact at fault. Try to not laugh, these people are being serious.
To go with that take on this crash, one would have to completely ignore the fact the other driver blew through the stop sign and hit the cruiser. Had the cop stopped, then gone, if he in fact didn’t, it’s likely the collision would’ve been at the front quarter panel, not the rear, so the woman still would’ve hit him.
But because people have a problem with cops who act like they’re above the law, and trust us we don’t like that either, we think some just really want the police to be at fault. Even if the officer did run the stop sign, we don’t think he’s at fault in the crash, but what do you think?
