A Florida woman is lucky to be alive after she was shot in the head during a road rage incident. What’s even worse, she and her husband were out celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary when an unidentified man shot up their vehicle, her husband calling 911 in a panic.
As covered by NBC 6, the shooting happened on Interstate 595 when a black Dodge Ram came up on them fast. When they tried moving out of the way, the pickup got behind them. The other driver did that repeatedly, then he fired off a shot at the husband’s head.
The bullet ricocheted and hit the wife instead, thankfully only grazing her temple. Still, she was in pain and bleeding a lot, and in the panic of the moment neither one knew for sure if she would survive.
We cover far too many road rage cases, not because we want to but because it’s such a problem and it seems to be getting worse. People need to be aware of this issue.
Road rage is a serious societal problem that literally costs lives. While passing new laws, like the one in Utah which adds an enhancement to any charges when road rage is a factor, might seem like the way to solve the problem, it honestly isn’t. People still break the law, especially when they lack self-control.
And that’s the problem with road rage, it’s about people losing control and letting their emotions drive their actions unchecked. Road rage is a symptom of a larger problem, like we said a societal problem, and it needs to be corrected. More discourse about that needs to happen.
Also, each and every one of us needs to be honest with ourselves about how we might be contributing to the road rage issue. How many times do you honk your horn as “punishment” for another driver doing something you don’t like? How many times do you make hand signals to other drivers or yell in your car? Do you roll down your windows and yell at other vehicles?
We know everyone says they’re not part of the problem, but that’s impossible considering how widespread road rage is these days. People aren’t taking an honest look at their actions and as a result situations like this woman getting shot in the head are unfolding.
Everyone needs to do better.
