C3 Corvette Driver Not Only Survived This Crash, He Walked Away Uninjured

We’ve seen some bad car crashes, including ones like this C3 Corvette that submarined under a guardrail right at head level. Usually, these types of accidents involve fatal head injuries, maybe even decapitation, but in this one the driver apparently not only survived, he walked away uninjured.

How that’s even possible isn’t clear, because from the images shared by Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department in Colorado, it looks like the guy should’ve given that guardrail a 55 mph kiss. After all, the hood, windshield, even the roof of the classic American sports car were mangled in the crash.

But, from one of the photos shared by first responders, you can see just enough space was left for the driver’s head to not contact the metal rail. We can’t imagine what was going through that guy’s head right after the Chevy came to a complete stop and he could see the guardrail right in front of his face.

Firefighters did have to cut away the Corvette’s roof to pull the driver out, which always makes crash damage look even worse. So, ignore the missing sections of the roof, those were removed after the accident.

Even after they removed the miraculously uninjured driver from the C3, first responders still had a big job on their hands. To get the Corvette out from under the guardrail where it was wedged, they had to lift the rail up, then pull it out.

A lot of people who have seen these photos are making assumptions about how the ‘Vette driver ended up crashing. With zero details provided by first responders, we couldn’t even begin to venture a guess. However, a post on the Colorado Cars and Coffee Facebook page fielded a comment about how the intersection by where this crash happened “is an accident magnet” for unspecified reasons.

We’re just glad the driver lived to tell his tale of this crash.
