Ram Truck Owners Beware: Thieves Stealing Touchscreens In Latest Trend

If you or someone who know owns a Ram truck, be careful because thieves are breaking in and stealing the infotainment touchscreens. This crime trend is costing owners dearly as police warn the thefts can happen in well under a minute.

The vast majority of people think how car insurance rates are calculated is unfair.

Where the trend seems to be centered for now is the Detroit area where for the past two-plus months, police have been dealing with a growing number of cases. Thieves are just breaking a back window, climbing inside, undoing two screws, then removing the entire touchscreen from the center stack.

A detective investigating over a dozen cases in Detroit spoke with Fox 2, saying since the thefts are happening all over the metro area, he assumes it’s the work of more than just one person. These things have a tendency to spread, so even if you don’t live anywhere near Michigan, you could still become a target.

After all, the Kia Boyz trend began in Milwaukee and has spread to every part of the United States and beyond. With how reportedly quick and easy it is for thieves to steal Ram truck touchscreens, this could become a similar sort of trend.

That same detective who was interviewed believes Stellantis and Ram could stop this trend before it really heats up if they “changed some security features.” That would be wonderful to see, but just like with the Kia/Hyundai software update and a similar measure by Dodge, those were ineffective for some reason.

The difficult thing with something like a Dodge Ram is parking it in a garage usually isn’t an option, thanks to their size. That means the trucks are just sitting outside overnight, allowing thieves quick access so they can break a window, climb in, remove the touchscreen, and be gone in 30 seconds.

Maybe the aftermarket will come up with a touchscreen lock device?
