A driver lost control of and flipped his 2023 Lamborghini Huracan STO on scenic Highway 9 near Santa Cruz, California recently. The aftermath will upset Lambo fans, especially since California Highway Patrol pushed the supercar that was resting on its roof off the road unceremoniously using a cruiser, all to prevent another car from coming through the sweeping turn and hitting it.

Apparently, the scenic highway that winds through the mountains, known for its many turns, is a favorite route for enthusiasts to test the limits of their performance car. Most are able to stick the sharp or sweeping turns well enough, but this Huracan STO driver got in over his head, likely totaling the $400,000 supercar.
For what it’s worth, the driver and passenger only sustained minor injuries in the single-car crash. While the roof on the passenger side was pretty badly caved in, keep in mind the seats as positioned extra low, which probably helped prevent serious head and neck injuries.
California Highway Patrol added in social media posts about the incident that drivers need to slow down on Highway 9, adding it’s not a public racetrack. Unfortunately, they end up dealing with the aftermath of people who believe otherwise regularly.
It’s easy to see how someone might lose control of the Lamborghini Huracan STO. After all, the mid-mounted V10 is dialed up to produce 631-horsepower and the car is lighter plus more aerodynamic than a regular Huracan, which is already quite the capable vehicle.
Plus, there are all kinds of drive modes one probably shouldn’t use on public roads, especially one with lots of curves like Highway 9. Just because someone can afford to buy the Italian wonder doesn’t mean they know how to drive it correctly.
Unfortunately, this might mean there’s one less Lamborghini Huracan STO in the world.
