For many gearheads, owning something like a Porsche Panamera would be a dream, so to see that some hikers found one abandoned on a trail is confusing, even infuriating. The hikers were also puzzled by the discovery since one doesn’t usually find German luxury sedans just out in the middle of nowhere.
Learn about Ford’s massive recall history.
The discovery was made in Wissahickon Valley Park in Northwest Philadelphia. A woman named Kayley Clare took to Facebook and shared a photo of the Porsche, probably because she figured without that people would think she’s just making things up.
But in this day and age of smartphones with cameras, plus social media, these seemingly tall tales can be documented and disseminated with ease and rapidity.
While the discovery was made on the morning of May 19, the Porsche was removed by some men who showed up with a side-by-side. But The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that in just that short span of time the odd discovery gave birth to all kinds of crazy conspiracy theories among locals and online.
But we’ve seen this sort of thing before. People buy a fancy car and figure it can handle literally anything they throw at it, including traversing a fairly rugged trail. We even have this sort of thing out in the west, but it’s with Subarus trying to hang on technical Jeep trails.
We guess this sort of thing doesn’t happen much in the Philadelphia area. Adding fuel to the fire was the vanity plate that had only two characters, plus featured what many thought was the state’s coat of arms. That led to theories it was a government official’s car. Yes, apparently beaurocrats are being issued Porsches.
At least The Philadelphia Inquirer got to the bottom of this story, which apparently involves a confused 84-year-old man who took two wrong turns before getting the Panamera stuck on a trail where it didn’t belong.
