A father in Culver City, California received a nasty surprise on Father’s Day when thieves stole his Impala and motorcycle. The dirty deed was done early in the morning while the victim was at home, later ruining what should have been a special day for the man.
Arizona police bust a big car theft ring.
According to KTLA, the 1964 Chevy Impala and the man’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle were sitting in the parking garage when two thieves took off with them early on the morning of June 15. The victim didn’t realize they were even gone until he went to throw away the trash in the afternoon.
This is why we recommend alarms, cameras in your garage with motion detection, and GPS trackers for your cars, especially if you’re collectable classics.
Maybe the victim thought he was safe since he lives in a gated apartment complex. There are surveillance cameras in the parking garage and through that footage the man learned the two thieves struck at 4:30 am.
In the footage, you can see the thieves don’t wear masks as if they have no idea they’re being recorded. One of them pops the hood on the Impala and is seemingly inspecting the classic car while the other guy is talking on his phone and standing behind the Chevy most of the time.
It’s odd behavior, certainly not the typical car thief MO, and we’re not sure what it means. Was this just two guys who suddenly decided to steal a vehicle? Are they inexperienced? Or were they trying to make sure the Impala fit a very specific spec?
Unfortunately, with resources diverted to the protests and rioting, Los Angeles Police couldn’t respond to this crime quickly. Both the Impala and Harley-Davidson seem to just be gone and that’s a sad reality the victim must deal with now.
