Thief Crashes C8 Corvette Z06 Through Dealership’s Window

A would-be thief drove a new C8 Corvette Z06 through a dealership’s showroom window, only to have it get stuck. That was a fast and expensive way for the guy to learn that in Hollywood films when cars drive through big pane glass windows, that’s in fact a special effect and not even close to reality.

We’ve seen thieves pull this kind of maneuver before and it always results in crippling damage to the car. But in this case the suspect couldn’t even get the high-powered sports car to exit the building all the way.

As show in footage taken by PMTVLA, the suspect used a rented electric scooter to break through one of the smaller windows in the dealership showroom, which is located in South Los Angeles near the USC campus.

Gaining entry to the showroom, the guy was able to find the keys to the C8 Z06 and so was able to get inside and fire up the powerful V8 no problem. We can’t believe how little security, if any, some dealers have for car keys.

You can see the suspect rammed the metal between two panes of glass with the dead center of the mid-engine sport’s car’s front bumper. We’re assuming he thought that would result in it giving way, but it only broke at the bottom and held fast at the top, stopping the Corvette from exiting the building all the way.

That little stunt attracted the attention of a USC campus cop who was able to chase the suspect down and arrest him. Los Angeles Police arrived not too long after and took custody of the would-be thief.

Dealerships have been often targeted by thieves in the past several years, especially in the middle of the night. Securing keys should be a fundamental security measure taken by every dealer, including small mom and pop establishments.
