A Lamborghini executive claims e-fuel or synthetic fuel will save the internal combustion engine. We’ve heard this claim many times before, but with the current decline in the EV market we wonder true this really is.
BMW has developed a way to make body panels out of flax fibers.
After all, much has been written and even more said about the future of the internal combustion engine, so we’ll see if what this executive has predicted will come true or not. It could be e-fuel is about as impractical as EVs, at least in the short run.
After all, prognostications of electric cars running ICE out of the market by different dates has proven foolhardy. But Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini’s chief technical officer, seems convinced e-fuel is the way forward.
Speaking with Australian automotive website CarExpert, Mohr revealed that the new Lamborghini Temerario, with its hybrid V8 powertrain, can in fact run on e-fuel now. It was engineered for such use to “futureproof” the new exotic Italian supercar.
“I’m not saying that synthetic fuel is better than fossil fuel, but it could be the savior of the combustion engine,” Mohr told CarExpert.
It’s interesting how he made sure to not place more value on one fuel than another. It’s a touchy time globally as different groups battle over what types of energy systems are best, often for ulterior reasons.
Lamborghini, as well as other automakers with an international market, have to navigate the increasingly divisive landscape. That might be why Mohr doesn’t want to wade into what fuel source is best.
Instead, the man is hedging his bets, making the new hybrid supercar so it can run on gasoline and e-fuel.
But Mohr did say he doesn’t think the time for pure electrification has arrived just yet. “Its time will come, trust me, because this kind of technology transformation needs longer,” he told CarExpert.
