At some point people didn’t get the memo that pushing your motorcycle to 180 mph during a police chase is a bad idea. One man in North Carolina learned that lesson the hard way, losing his sport bike to a mechanical failure and losing his freedom to legal consequences.
Watch police chase down a fleeing semi-truck.
That man, Christopher Pennington of Kenly, was traveling on Interstate 795 through Lenoir County when a deputy tried pulling him over for a traffic violation, reports WITN. Rather than pull over like a normal person, the guy decided to run for it.
Usually we see people do that sort of thing because they either have something illegal on them or they have a warrant for their arrest. But there’s nothing in the report about charges for either, so this might have just been a case of someone thinking they could outrun the cops and not have to pay a ticket.
Whatever his reason, Pennington took off, hitting an estimated 180 mph to escape consequences. But pushing his crotch rocket that hard caused an unspecified mechanical failure, so he had to pull over in Goldsboro as the motorcycle was dead.
After he was arrested, the bike then caught on fire. Ironically, by trying to avoid consequences for his actions, the guy was hit with even more severe consequences for his actions.
Not only did he lose his motorcycle, which was entirely his fault, the guy was hit with a felony charge of flee to elude arrest, reckless driving, and numerous traffic-related offenses. He could be spending a long time behind bars, then even longer on parole.
His dangerous move to remain free backfired big time. This is why no matter how much trouble you’re in, running from police will only add to your problems.
