We really do trust truckers with our lives, so when one decided to flee police in a high-speed chase, the danger level was sky-high. After all, the truck weighs multiple times more than cop cars, making it a deadly weapon in the wrong hands.

When the dashcam footage begins, it’s already partway through the chase. Previously, troopers learned the suspect was holding his wife hostage in the semi’s cab. While he stopped several times, he refused to surrender.
During one of those stops he disconnected the trailer from the truck, allowing him to flee at higher speeds and maneuver better. You can see the guy going the wrong way on Interstate 75, narrowly missing the camera car.
Then he crosses the median, the first of several times doing that, before turning around and going the wrong way again. We assume he thinks by changing directions often he can outsmart troopers.
Several attempts to spike the semi’s tires appear ineffective. However, at one point it’s clear the cab is listing towards the passenger side, so one of more tires on the side might have in fact been deflated.
Later, you see the front tire on the passenger side is all the way gone.
Even in that state, the guy keeps pushing the semi, passing the SWAT team truck. Their presence should make the suspect rethink what he’s doing, but he keeps driving like a maniac.
Thankfully, the guy eventually stops and lets his injured wife out. While she went through hell, the result could’ve been so much worse.
What finally brings the rampage to a close is a 50-caliber rifle round. A member of the SWAT team shot the semi’s engine block, causing it to lose compression. That action potentially saved lives as it looked like the fleeing trucker had zero regard for other’s lives and wasn’t even thinking of giving up.
Troopers did an excellent job of clearing traffic from both sides of the interstate in the area where the suspect was driving. Had they not, innocent lives might have been lost, so hats off to them for that.
