Infiniti debuted an unexpected concept at this year’s SEMA Show: the QX80 R-Spec, a performance-focused reimagining of its luxury SUV built around the hand-built VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine from the Nissan GT-R.

Chassis and Suspension Upgrades
To accommodate the engine swap, engineers reworked the QX80’s chassis, adding custom coilovers with Eibach springs and relocating the steering rack to improve handling stability given the vehicle’s size and weight. Carbon-ceramic brakes borrowed from the GT-R were added to provide stopping power to match the added performance capability.
Exterior Design
The concept features a midnight purple exterior finish, wide-body fender flares, an aggressive front splitter, and bronze 24-inch wheels wrapped in Yokohama tires. Twin exhaust outlets and a reshaped rear bumper complete the exterior transformation.

Concept Status
Infiniti has stated that the QX80 R-Spec remains a concept vehicle with no confirmed plans for production. Even so, the build demonstrates the kind of ambitious engineering exercises automakers sometimes pursue for shows like SEMA, blending GT-R performance components with the QX80’s SUV platform in a combination not typically seen from luxury SUV manufacturers.
