Imperial Beach resident Peter Ricciardo is offering a $10,000 reward for the safe return of his custom 1960 Chevy Impala convertible, which was stolen directly from his driveway.
Police Searching for Camaro Involved in Hit-and-Run
A Lifelong Dream Car
Ricciardo said his interest in the Impala dates back decades, inspired by watching his older brother drive a similar car in his youth. He purchased the vehicle at auction in 2022 after years of searching for the right example.
What Made the Car Special
The Impala featured a 348-cubic-inch V8 with triple carburetors, factory air conditioning, an uncommon option for the era, and a six-figure restoration finished in a two-tone red and cream color scheme. The car had become a familiar sight at local car shows and was frequently requested for weddings and quinceañeras in the area.
How the Theft Occurred
Surveillance footage from October 21 reportedly shows a suspect removing the car’s cover, bypassing the lock, and pushing the vehicle down Calla Avenue before driving off. Ricciardo has since checked with salvage yards and repair shops within a 50-mile radius in hopes the car might surface for parts or bodywork. Sheriff’s deputies say they currently have no substantial leads in the case.
How to Help
Ricciardo has said he hoped to eventually pass the Impala down within his family. Anyone with information about the stolen vehicle is urged to contact Crime Stoppers, where tipsters may also qualify for an additional reward of up to $1,000.
