How the Incident Unfolded

According to police, 33-year-old Dy’Sean Broome was driving an orange Dodge Charger northbound on Highway 98 near Bartow when he began following closely behind another vehicle. The driver attempted to change lanes to create distance, but Broome allegedly continued to match their movements.

Confrontation and Alleged Gun Display

When both vehicles reached the area of Highway 98 South and Combee Road South, the male passenger of the other vehicle got out to ask Broome why he was following them. According to an affidavit, the passenger told police that Broome pointed a firearm at him. The couple called law enforcement and continued driving, with Broome allegedly following them into downtown Lakeland, where police eventually stopped his vehicle.

Charges Filed

During the stop, deputies recovered a loaded firearm from the vehicle. Broome was charged with aggravated assault, stalking, and improper exhibition of a firearm. Broome has disputed the account, claiming the other vehicle had been following him, though authorities say surveillance footage supports the couple’s version of events. As with any pending case, the charges are accusations, and Broome is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

A Prior Incident

Records show Broome previously entered a plea for disorderly conduct following a similar incident on the same stretch of road. Pasco Fire Rescue officials have acknowledged awareness of both incidents as the investigation into this latest arrest continues.
