How the Crash Happened
According to investigators, a 2023 Mustang traveling south, driven by an 18-year-old with a 17-year-old passenger, struck a northbound 2021 Ford van that was in the process of turning. The van was driven by a 63-year-old Orlando man and carried two elderly passengers.
Two Passengers Did Not Survive
The van’s two passengers, ages 81 and 94, died as a result of the crash; one passed away at the scene, and the other died later at AdventHealth Apopka despite efforts by medical staff. The van’s driver survived the collision. Both occupants of the Mustang were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
A Community Connection
Reports indicate four of those involved in the crash were from Apopka, while the van’s driver was from Orlando.
Investigation Into Speed and Signal Timing
Troopers are still working to determine the Mustang’s speed at the time of the crash and whether the intersection’s left-turn signal played a role in the collision. Investigators are examining roadside evidence, including debris and skid marks, though officials have not yet released a full account of what led to the crash. The investigation remains active as authorities continue piecing together exactly what happened.
