Thieves have set their sights on electric vehicle charging stations, treating them as soft targets for quick profit much like catalytic converters before them. The copper and other valuable materials inside make the chargers an appealing mark.
The trend poses a real obstacle to the expansion of charging infrastructure, leaving stations out of service and drivers stranded. As EV adoption grows, protecting this critical network from vandalism and theft is becoming an increasingly pressing concern.
