Usually police impersonators are people who wanted to be cops but couldn’t, often working as private security guards. But this may be the first time we’ve seen an actual police officer charged with impersonating a US Marshal, an unusual twist on the familiar crime.
An officer crossing that line is especially troubling for public trust. The case is a reminder that the abuse of authority can occur even among those who legitimately wear a badge, making accountability all the more important.
