As funny as it is to see the photo of a Dodge Charger being fished tail-first out of a lake in Elk Grove, California how it got there is far from a laughing matter. This is yet another testament to how dangerous intoxicated driving is, not only to the driver but everyone else.
Someone drove their C8 Corvette into the sea.
According to Elk Grove Police, they were originally called to a neighborhood after someone observed a couple arguing. When officers got there, they found one person who clearly was intoxicated walking down a residential street.
That person was holding a set of car keys. When asked where their vehicle was, the suspect told officers it was parked “near a lake.” Let’s just say that wasn’t entirely accurate.
After searching the area, the only vehicle they found was the Dodge Charger that was underwater. A gate that looked like a car crashed into it, plus tire tread marks, led to the watery grave. It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure out what happened.
Thankfully, a dive team got there quickly and confirmed nobody was trapped inside the Mopar. A tow company with a crane was also available, so extracting the Charger didn’t take days or weeks, which is sometimes the case.
The houses around the lake look pretty nice, so we’re sure residents are pretty happy the car was fished out quickly.
Police charged the driver with impaired driving as well as hit and run. Remember, if you do crash, leaving the scene is a bad idea.
We don’t know what the ultimate outcome of this case will be, but it seems like an open and shut scenario. Whether the person was drinking, smoking pot, or using whatever substance, they shouldn’t have been behind the wheel. Perhaps that’s why they were arguing with the unnamed party before police arrived?
