Carjacking Suspect Goes On Wild Chase Through Detroit

Estimated read time 2 min read

One of the most dangerous types of chases police can engage in is with an armed carjacking suspect. First off, the person they’re chasing has a gun and probably isn’t afraid to use it. Plus, with serious charges already coming, the suspect is going to be more desperate to get away.

Dodge Challenger chase is pure chaos.

Compounding things further is the fact the person isn’t driving their own ride, so they can literally drive it like they stole it.

This is the exact scenario Michigan State Police were facing when the call for assistance pulling over an armed carjacking suspect in Detroit came through. And sure enough, their quarry didn’t exactly pull over and surrender all nice like.

Instead, as you see in the dashcam footage, the suspect got off the highway quickly and tried losing his pursuers on the dark surface streets of Detroit.

A quick right turn dos lose one MSP unit, but the one right behind it sticks the turn and is in hot pursuit of the suspect. Considering the guy is armed and dangerous, troopers don’t want to just let him get away even though the pursuit comes with its risks.

Just as that second unit catches up and could do a PIT, the suspect flips a quick U-turn, putting some distance between him and the trooper. But when the trooper catches back up, he’s ready for that same trick.

We’ve seen criminals who only have one or two things they do in a chase. Sometimes they’re dumb and completely ineffective, but even the tricks that work might only do so once or twice before cops anticipate them.

With the suspect’s driving talent tapped out, the trooper is able to pit the Chevy and it becomes a foot chase. One of the troopers even gives the guy a tap with his push bar before his colleagues tackle him.
