Two performance cars, a C8 Corvette and a BMW M5, crashed at high speed in Brooklyn early on May 4. As the Corvette caught fire with at least one man trapped inside, an off-duty New York officer rushed in to help, turning a catastrophe into a rescue effort.
Post-crash fires leave precious little time to act, making the off-duty officer’s intervention crucial. The harrowing scene is a reminder of how quickly high-speed wrecks can turn deadly and how bystanders can make a life-saving difference.
