A man plowed his Ford F-150 through the side of an Elks Lodge in Apache Junction, Arizona injuring at least 30 people. It’s a sad situation where some people were badly hurt, including one left in critical condition, but thankfully at this point nobody has died. But the crash doesn’t sound like it wasn’t just someone mixing up the pedals or putting the truck into drive instead of reverse.

According to Apache Junction Police Department, 73-year-old Thomas Kain was behind the wheel of the Ford when it blew through the Elks Lodge exterior wall on the night of September 7. You can see from the photo shared by police the pickup didn’t just barely go inside the building but traveled a fair distance.
Kain is now facing quite a list of charges than include 12 counts of aggravated assault, 17 counts of endangerment, plus DUI. Blood tests are still out to determine just how intoxicated the man was, so there might be more criminal charges coming.
What’s more, the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control is involved in the investigation. Apparently, the state agency is looking at what led up to the crash, which sounds a little like there’s a suspicion some state liquor laws weren’t followed.
Regardless, these days there’s no excuse for anyone to drive drunk with so many transportation options. If you don’t have a friend to drive you, it’s easy to hail a ride using a rideshare app or you can call a taxi. Or you can text or call a friend or family member and ask them to pick you up.
We see a lot of cars crashing into buildings, but miraculously many times people aren’t hurt. How that happens is beyond us, but this situation was far different. It sounds like the lodge was crowded, so it’s no wonder so many were injured and might even be a miracle the count isn’t higher.
