A speeding Dodge Charger collided with a BMW 7 Series before literally flying through the air and crashing into a liquor store in Detroit. Sadly, two teenagers died in the accident, leaving witnesses stunned.
Watch three muscle cars try racing each other right in front of a cop.
This is the sort of crash we hate to see, not only because of the fact young people died needlessly but also because of why. While many are focusing on the allegation the teenage driver of the Charger was speeding, there’s more to the story.
According to Fox 2, the driver of the BMW was allegedly intoxicated. He turned left in front of the Dodge, which is what caused the initial collision, sending the Charger careening through the air and into the side of the liquor store.
As is so often the case, the Bimmer driver wasn’t injured. We think his actions were a major contributing force in the crash.
But the thing is so many people are convinced speed alone kills. It really doesn’t, but driving recklessly does. And yes, many times when people speed they also behave recklessly, so the two often go hand in hand.
There’s no indication in the report that the teen driver was being reckless. But if it’s true the BMW driver turned left in front of the Dodge, that would be reckless. And we’d argue that’s the reason for the fatal collision.
Since you can’t control for what other people do on the road, you have to always be driving aware. Even if you aren’t responsible for causing a crash, you can still be hurt or killed in one. So being right doesn’t mean walking away to live another day. That’s why you always have to be ready for other people to do sudden, dangerous, stupid things.
