Bus Driver Recounts Scary Cleveland Street Takeover

Just like in other cities across the country, Cleveland has been dealing with violent street takeovers. Not only are these events a headache for police, innocent citizens are being terrorized by participants who seem to feel they’re completely above the law. This is one of the reasons we wish authorities everywhere would stamp these events out once and for all.

Why do cities tolerate street takeovers?

A bus driver in Cleveland recently told a local news station about the scary experience he and his passengers had after a takeover shut down a bridge on Interstate 90. He was running a party bus at night, with the takeover dorks deciding the large vehicle with all its passengers was a fun target.

Cell phone video shared with WKYC shows the suspects just outside the bus harassing the driver and passengers. Some of them pointed guns at the passengers, the same thing they did to other motorists who were stuck as the bridge was illegally shut down.

As the situation escalated, the takeover dorks tried breaking into the bus. One can only imagine what they planned on doing had they gotten inside.

The bus driver said in an interview the takeover involved 10-foot-tall flames on the road as participants threw gasoline on the pavement, all for the spectacle of driving through the wall of fire. We’ve seen that trick used at other takeovers, often resulting in serious situations. But it’s not like the takeover crowd is known for being careful.

Just like in other street takeover events, police say this one was coordinated through social media. We remember not too long ago how different social platforms made it impossible to share certain opinions or coordinate events that were deemed too dangerous for public health reasons. Yet these same sites can’t stop their platforms for being used to organized illegal gatherings like this? Something sure is off about that.
