A reported Camaro thief led police in Los Angeles on a chase throughout the city. The emboldened criminal not only rammed police cruisers, he used the Chevy muscle car to push around regular motorists’ cars during the pursuit.
Camaro crash sets a tree on fire.
If ever there was a sign of how backwards things have become with law enforcement in California, this is it. The thief obviously didn’t fear or even respect the cops chasing him. Instead, he knew he could use the Camaro to ram them out of the way and there was nothing they could do.
Police couldn’t even do anything when he rammed into other cars, putting innocent bystanders at risk.
Over and over again we’ve heard the doing PIT maneuvers and using other aggressive means of ending police pursuits puts others on the road at risk. Yet here we have a suspect who’s putting other people at risk and police can’t do anything to stop him.
In fact, at the beginning of one of the news chopper clips we’re sharing, you can hear the reporter saying the sheriff’s department has called off the chase. Usually that’s done to protect the public. The irony is just a little too much for us.
Eventually, this guy made his way into Downtown Los Angeles. Like so many others, he pulled into a parking structure to escape from police. Suspects like doing that or going in tunnels or below overpasses since it blinds the police helicopter from seeing where they go.
But it seems law enforcement there at least has become wise to this trick because they were able to catch him before he just slipped away.
Still, wouldn’t this chase have been over in no time had police just pitted and pinned the Camaro as soon as the suspect started ramming them?
