C8 Corvette Driver Survives Horrific Crash

Just looking at the mangled mess of this C8 Corvette which ran head-on into a pole, we would’ve thought it was for sure a fatal accident. However, the driver somehow survived. Perhaps it had something to do with the engine not pushing into the passenger compartment.

Who’s at fault in this Cadillac CTS vs C8 Corvette crash?

The crash, which happened on November 29 just after midnight in Irvine, California, involved just the mid-engine sports car. It was so violent, the traffic signal pole was several feet into the front end of the vehicle, requiring firefighters to work for 15 minutes to free the driver. You can see in the included footage they had to peel the windshield back as part of the extraction process.

There was no passenger in the C8 Corvette. We’re not sure had there been a passenger if this accident would’ve involved a fatality. You can also see in the opening the shot from County News TV the C8 Corvette’s license plate has a handicap designation.

While he survived, the Chevy driver was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. We hope he makes a full recovery.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is under investigation with no mention of drugs or alcohol as a potential reason. From the look of the collision, some are guessing the C8 Corvette was going pretty fast at the time.

Whatever the reason for the collision, this is a great reminder for those of us living in areas with fairer weather where we can still drive performance cars at this time of the year to exercise caution. Handling can diminish at certain temperatures, even if it’s not anywhere near freezing, and weather conditions like rain can also compromise handling.

That, combined with increased traffic thanks to the holidays, plus some unfortunately making the decision to drive while intoxicated, can make for a dangerous combination.
