We’ve always thought the Ford Escape had an ironic name, but someone finally decided to really try reversing that in a daring escape from police in New York City. More specifically, the chaotic scene recorded by a bystander using his phone took place in the Bronx.

According to NYC Scoop on X, a 25-year-old man called police to report his Ford Escape had been stolen while it was parked on the road. It didn’t take long for the boys in blue to locate the little crossover, but seemingly cornered by several officers, the suspect driver tried his best to escape.
You can see at the beginning of the footage several officers have either their batons out to break the windows on the Ford or at least two appear to have drawn their sidearms. Considering the driver rammed several other vehicles, it’s understandable why police would be concerned he would mow them down in the process.
Driving off the road, the Escape came nose-to-nose with a NYPD cruiser. That collision deployed the airbags in the little Ford and it might have damaged the radiator. Seizing on the opportunity, police dragged the 30-year-old female suspect driver out of the vehicle and arrested her.
A 33-year-old male passenger was also pulled out the Escape and arrested. They’re both facing a long list of charges. With how some prosecutors are in NYC, it’s possible they both were out of jail on zero bond before the ink dried on the police reports.
At the end of the video, you can hear a woman screaming, almost like she’s in pain. Is that the driver or just the distinct New York brand Mayor Adams keeps bragging about? That combined with plenty of horn honking and shouting just adds to the serene scene.
